City of London moves to revoke Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's Freedom honor

The City of London Corporation announced that its Court of Common Council has approved a formal mechanism to revoke the Freedom of the City honour. This change comes after a legal assessment found no existing lawful way to remove the title. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who retained the honour despite losing his royal titles, did not respond to a request to relinquish it, prompting a motion of censure.

The corporation described his link to Jeffrey Epstein as wholly unacceptable and inconsistent with the honour's obligations. Under the new rules, each case will be examined individually, with the subject given a chance to submit written representations before a final decision. The process will now be applied to Mountbatten-Windsor, with a council vote slated for December. The corporation reiterated its support for victims of sexual abuse.
