Civilian casualties surge as Ukraine war becomes increasingly total, medical mission reports

July’s conflict toll reached 437 civilian deaths and 2,610 injuries, roughly 100 victims each day, the highest since more than four years ago. The share of casualties caused by long-range strikes is rising, with attacks on deep-inside infrastructure and urban centers like Kyiv. According to Małgorzata Olasińska-Chart of the Polish Medical Mission, the war is turning into a total conflict with no safe zones across Ukraine.
Russian forces have hit health services 3,270 times, the highest figure ever recorded by WHO in any war. To compensate, the mission’s mobile clinics in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions conduct about 1,000 medical consultations monthly, serving mainly people over 65, as well as pregnant women and newborns nationwide. The mission’s president, Ewa Piekarska-Dymus, emphasizes support for the elderly and disabled who remain at home, while a 72-year-old patient expressed relief at receiving care locally.
