CJP calls for Rajasthan protest over alleged police house arrests and beatings
The Cockroach Janta Party says its members were placed under house arrest, detained and assaulted by police in Rajasthan and plans a protest within ten days.
At a press briefing in Jaipur, CJP national spokesperson Deepak Baliyan alleged that police placed him under house arrest for four days at his residence in Kathumar, Alwar district, with officers from four stations posted outside. He said his family also faced harassment. Party activists Gigraj Jorli and his colleague Surendra reported being blocked from attending a planned October 10 rally in Delhi, claiming they were illegally detained in a vehicle.
Another member, Shashikant, said he and Suraj Meena were taken to Gandhi Nagar police station on October 8, severely beaten, had their phones seized and were denied legal help. CJP announced a protest in Rajasthan to be held within ten days, calling on students, unions and citizens to highlight alleged police excesses against activists, women and journalists. No specific protest date has been set, with further details to be released later.
Why it matters
The allegations raise concerns about police overreach and civil-rights violations in Rajasthan.
