CJP leaders wait hours as brief hearing fails to secure release of detained convenors

Two Cockroach Janta Party convenors remained in custody after a five-hour wait at Mandir Marg police station ended with a ten-minute hearing that did not resolve their release.

Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, convenors of the Cockroach Janta Party, have been in judicial custody since October 14. On Sunday they spent nearly five hours at the Mandir Marg police station awaiting a hearing. The special executive magistrate heard the case for only eight to ten minutes, citing threats and mental harassment, and left the question of their release unanswered for the fifth day in a row.

Why it matters

The prolonged detention of opposition leaders highlights concerns over due process and political pressure in the legal system.
