CJP’s school audit meets resistance after headmaster files complaint in Mumbai

The Cockroach Janta Party’s “School Theek Karo” audit of a Mumbai municipal school prompted the headmaster to lodge a grievance with the BMC, causing the group to pause further inspections.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) launched a nationwide “School Theek Karo” campaign on Independence Day, urging citizens to examine public schools for essential facilities. During a recent visit to Colaba Market Civic School in Mumbai, CJP auditors highlighted several shortcomings, including a teacher-less Telugu-medium section, inadequate seating, poorly maintained toilets, non-functioning water taps and classrooms littered with garbage.

The headmaster subsequently filed a complaint with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, prompting CJP members to adopt a more cautious approach to future audits in the city. One activist said the group now fears any minor error could trigger further complaints. Despite the setback, CJP continues to hold volunteer recruitment meetings in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, attended by plain-clothes police officers. The BMC has not clarified whether independent audits are permitted, and education officers Sujata Khare and Kirtivardhan Kiritkudve did not respond to inquiries.
