Class action moves forward over alleged sexual assaults at Nordik Spa Village
A certified class action alleging sexual assaults by massage therapists at Nordik Spa Village in Chelsea, Quebec, has been allowed to proceed.
A certified class action filed in Quebec Superior Court alleges that clients of Nordik Spa Village in Chelsea were sexually assaulted by massage therapists over a 19-year period. Lambert Avocats reports that 143 complainants have come forward, implicating 36 therapists between 2007 and 2026. The complaint cites a December 2024 incident in which a client says a male therapist ignored requests to reduce pressure and made inappropriate contact, after which the spa allegedly offered gift cards to encourage her return.
The plaintiffs argue the spa treated therapists as independent contractors, failed to apologize, and did not implement safeguards despite prior allegations, some of which led to criminal proceedings. Spa representatives state the certification of the class action is not a judgment and affirm that guest safety remains their top priority, though they will defend the case. Lawyer Philippe Brault describes the suit as addressing institutional negligence, while general manager Isabelle Mathieu emphasizes ongoing safety measures.
