Clay Benjamin Hall denies rape charges in Warwick court trial

Clay Benjamin Hall pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping a teenage girl in Warwick, with the trial set to continue tomorrow.

Clay Benjamin Hall appeared before Warwick District Court and entered a not-guilty plea to two rape charges involving a teenage girl he met on a street in Warwick, Queensland. According to Crown prosecutor Samantha O'Rourke, the girl, who was in her late teens, had left a house party and agreed to show Hall a shortcut to the local showgrounds in the early hours of October 31, 2021, after which she was allegedly assaulted near a tree.

The prosecution described the encounter as non-consensual, citing vaginal and anal penetration, and noted that the victim sought help from her boxing instructor before being taken to Warwick Base Hospital. Defence counsel David Jones KC acknowledged that sexual activity occurred but contested the consent issue, questioning the impact of alcohol and the girl’s mental state after the party. Justice Philip McCarthy KC is presiding, and the trial is expected to continue the next day.
