Clean-energy Super PAC attacks Boebert with Beetlejuice eviction ad
A clean-energy Super PAC released an advertisement spotlighting Rep. Lauren Boebert’s ejection from a Denver Beetlejuice musical, using the episode to question her suitability for Congress.
The clean-energy group Invest in Tomorrow Coalition launched a television ad featuring security video of Rep. Lauren Boebert being removed from a Denver Beetlejuice musical after alleged vaping, singing, recording and causing a disturbance. The ad argues that soaring costs and political neglect make Boebert untrustworthy, especially around children, and therefore unfit for Congress. Boebert previously issued an apology, attributing her conduct to personal difficulties stemming from a divorce.
She is running for a second term in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, a heavily Republican seat, against Democrat Eileen Laubacher. While Boebert promotes the use of America’s “God-given resources” and backs both renewable and fossil fuels, the PAC is allocating $1.5 million to defeat her, within a $15 million strategy aimed at seven GOP lawmakers, including Scott Perry and Victoria Spartz. Solar-industry executive Tom Matzzie, chair of the Super PAC, said the effort will reshape electoral incentives for energy policy.
Why it matters
The ad illustrates how clean-energy groups are leveraging personal scandals to sway elections and influence future energy policy.
