Cleaner Trapped Inside Copenhagen Court Cell for Three Days Before Rescue

A female cleaning worker was locked inside a historic Copenhagen courthouse cell and remained undiscovered for three days until her husband reported her missing.

While performing her duties at an old Copenhagen courthouse, a cleaner from Coor became locked inside a cell that cannot be opened from within. The door sealed shut, and she was not found for three days. Her husband, returning home after traveling, discovered her bicycle outside the premises and alerted police, who rescued her.

She was taken to a hospital for evaluation and offered crisis assistance, after which she chose to resume her job. The courthouse, previously used by the courts until 2022, is now only sporadically occupied by the Copenhagen City Court, limiting regular presence to cleaning staff. In response, Coor is implementing a series of security protocols to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Why it matters
