CMS chief Dr. Mehmet Oz delivers warning letters to NYC senior care centers amid Medicaid fraud sweep
CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz visited two Queens adult-day programs, handing them federal warning letters over suspected Medicaid billing irregularities as part of a citywide fraud crackdown.
During a coordinated anti-fraud operation, CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz entered Kent Senior Care and Evergreen Adult Day Care in Flushing, Queens, and presented each director with a federal warning letter alleging questionable Medicaid billing practices. Oz and accompanying officials challenged the facilities on low occupancy versus high billing, undocumented wheelchair-transport services, and attendance sheets that appeared to be pre-filled for future dates.
The two visits were part of a broader sweep that saw over 80 providers receive similar letters citywide, with arrests and search warrants reported elsewhere. Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed that federal, state and local agencies, including the FBI, HHS Office of Inspector General and NYPD, were jointly conducting the crackdown. Oz suggested organized-crime groups might be paying seniors to inflate attendance, though no direct evidence was presented at the sites. Investigations remain ongoing and details of any further actions have not yet been released.
