Coalition talks in Žďár nad Sázavou aim for 19-seat majority

The winning Žďár - Živé Město alliance is negotiating a four-party coalition that would control 19 of 27 council seats, with a final decision expected next week.

The Žďár - Živé Město (ŽŽM) coalition, which won the recent municipal election, is in ongoing negotiations with representatives of ANO, the Christian Democrats and the MY pro Žďár group, each indicating openness to further cooperation. If these four parties unite, they would hold 19 of the 27 council seats. Mayor Martin Mrkos emphasized that no written pact exists yet and that discussions will continue, with a final decision anticipated next week.

ODS, which secured five seats, remains outside the talks because it opposes any alliance with ANO, a stance reiterated by its candidate Věra Mokříšová. Meanwhile, the council composition includes 14 seats for Společně VM, led by incumbent mayor Alexander Kaminaras, and smaller groups such as Změna 2018 se Soukromníky with three seats.

Why it matters

The coalition outcome will shape local governance and policy direction in Žďár nad Sázavou for the next term.
