Coast Guard Lieutenant Killed in Early-Morning Shooting Near Seattle, Police Seek Suspect

Coast Guard Lieutenant Connor Overstreet, a 29-year-old active-duty member stationed at Air Station Ventura, was shot dead in a Bryn Mawr-Skyway neighborhood about 10 miles south of downtown Seattle shortly after midnight on Sunday. First responders discovered him in the roadway and performed lifesaving measures, but he succumbed to a chest wound, which the King County Medical Examiner ruled a homicide. No arrests have been made and officials have not disclosed a suspect’s identity.

The King County Sheriff’s Office has set up a tip line and is seeking surveillance video captured between 12:30 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. that might aid the investigation. Overstreet’s wife, Madeleine, and his father, Brennan, have appealed for public assistance and offered an $11,000 reward to help bring the shooter to justice. The Coast Guard issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and honoring Overstreet with full-military honors.
