Coco Gauff defeats Iva Jovic to advance to US Open quarterfinals

Fourth seed Coco Gauff beat fellow American Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, moving into the US Open quarterfinals.

In New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium, fourth-seed Coco Gauff advanced to the US Open quarterfinals by defeating 14th-seed Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4. Gauff, who captured her first major at Flushing Meadows in 2023, displayed dominant serving and powerful groundstrokes, while Jovic struggled with 30 unforced errors and managed only nine winners. After an early exchange of breaks, Gauff pulled ahead, sealing the first set in just over half an hour and later breaking Jovic again to close the match.

The 18-year-old Jovic had previously upset Alexandra Eala in a three-set battle but could not match Gauff's intensity. Gauff's next opponent will be Russian Mirra Andreeva, the other French Open champion still in the draw. A win would put Gauff within striking distance of a second US Open crown.

Why it matters

The result keeps Coco Gauff on track for a potential third Grand Slam title at the US Open.
