Coco Gauff Receives Racist Messages After China Open Victory

In the round of 32 at the China Open, Coco Gauff defeated Chinese teenager Sun Xinran in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1. During the match she stopped play after noticing a flickering side‑panel light. Gauff later posted on X that the interruption was beyond her control and apologized to Sun. The post was followed by a large number of racist comments and direct messages, which Gauff called "insane" and urged critics to voice disagreement without resorting to racism.
