Coforge names former Bharti executive Akhil Gupta as new chairman amid board shake-up

Coforge has appointed Akhil Gupta, a veteran of Bharti Enterprises, as chairman after the sudden resignation of O P Bhatt and the departure of nomination committee head D K Singh.

Coforge’s board experienced a rapid turnover after former chairman O P Bhatt resigned on September 9 after an internal audit showed he had hidden a board evaluation that gave him the lowest rating. The company named non-executive director Vivek Sharma as interim chair and hired Egon Zehnder to lead a worldwide search for a permanent replacement. The nomination and remuneration committee chair D K Singh also resigned, pointing to differences between independent and executive directors.

Coforge announced that its four-year revenue guidance of close to $5 billion stays intact. Akhil Gupta, a chartered accountant with over four decades of experience and former Bharti Enterprises executive, was selected as the new chairman. CEO Sudhir Singh said Gupta’s background in navigating business shifts and his governance expertise are valuable as the firm moves deeper into AI-driven services. Gupta currently chairs the boards of 360 ONE WAM Ltd and Bharti Life Insurance Ltd and sits on the boards of Zepto, Snapdeal, Eutelsat Communications and Lodha Developers.
