Cold Iron Studios ends Switch cloud service for Aliens: Fireteam Elite without refunds

Cold Iron Studios has terminated the cloud servers for the Switch version of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, offering no refunds to purchasers.

Cold Iron Studios confirmed the shutdown of the cloud-hosted Nintendo Switch version of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, effective at 23:59 JST on August 5, 2026. The title, originally priced at $30 with a $60 Ultimate upgrade, will no longer be playable online or offline once the servers are offline, and the company has not offered refunds. In-game messaging expressed gratitude to players and apologized for the inconvenience.

The removal means owners cannot access the game at all, despite having paid for it. The timing coincides with the upcoming release of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 on August 25, potentially encouraging former Switch players to purchase the sequel. No alternative compensation beyond a discount on the forthcoming Switch 2 version was provided.

Why it matters

Switch owners lose access to a purchased game with no refund, highlighting consumer risk in cloud-based titles.
