Colectiv club owners' attempts at early release face court rejections and new compensation claims
The three former Colectiv nightclub owners have had their requests for conditional release denied, while prosecutors seek to recover large compensation sums from them.
Nearly eleven years after the Colectiv fire, the club's former owners continue to face legal battles. Costin Mincu, serving six years and six months, met the statutory minimum for release and highlighted his good behavior, work programs, and personal plans, but the court found his lack of responsibility insufficient and denied his request. Paul Gancea, sentenced to six years and four months, briefly won a conditional release at a lower court, only for the Bucharest Tribunal to overturn the decision and impose a waiting period before he can reapply.
No public conditional release request has been identified for George Alin Anastasescu, who is serving eleven years and eight months. In parallel, ISU has filed lawsuits to recover a share of the compensation previously paid to victims, imposing additional monetary liabilities on each owner that will be adjusted for inflation and interest.
