Colombia pulls out of international LGBT rights coalition effective immediately

The Colombian government announced today that it is withdrawing the country from the Equality Rights Coalition, a 45-nation group advocating for LGBT rights.

Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a formal notice stating that the Republic will cease participation in the Equality Rights Coalition (ERC) as of today. The ERC, comprising 45 countries, works to promote LGBT rights globally, and Colombia had served as a co-president with Spain since the mandate started in December 2024. The withdrawal occurs before the scheduled end of that term.

Caribbean Afirmativo, an organization monitoring the coalition, highlighted the abrupt departure and called for the Colombian government and its foreign ministry to provide public clarification. No further details on the reasons for the decision were supplied in the announcement.
