Colombian judges ordered President Abelardo De la Espriella to hide from the presidency's Instagram feed videos that depict him walking among the bodies of alleged criminals killed by security forces. The injunction follows a petition by an opposition parliamentarian demanding the clips be taken down. The court's decision is temporary and does not call for the permanent erasure of the material.
Since assuming the presidency in August, De la Espriella has adopted a tough stance on drug-linked violence, authorising air raids on guerrilla camps and reviving aerial herbicide spraying to eradicate coca crops. He has also received backing from the United States in the fight against drug cartels. Recent military actions have resulted in dozens of deaths, including minors, and the government plans experimental trials of a new herbicide, glufosinate-ammonium, under police supervision.
