Colombian illegal immigrant sentenced to three years for fraudulent voting

Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales, an illegal alien from Colombia, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for a series of fraud offenses, including false statements on a passport application, aggravated identity theft, and illegally voting by falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. He allegedly used a stolen Social Security number to secure an American passport and a Florida driver’s license, which enabled him to register and vote in the 2020 election and subsequent contests.

The court also issued a deportation order to be executed after his incarceration. U.S. Attorney Gregory Kehoe emphasized that violating immigration statutes threatens national security, while DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin called the conviction a victory for election security. Prosecutors detailed that Jaramillo-Grajales married a foreign national who later naturalized, divorced, and attempted to re-enter the U.S. on a fiancé visa before remarrying and seeking a green card. The case underscores the intersection of identity theft, immigration enforcement, and electoral integrity.
