Republican Representative Jeff Crank filed a House resolution that denounces all forms of socialism and seeks to compel moderate House Democrats to take a formal stand against the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Crank points to the recent election of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a Brookings Institution report showing 123 DSA-endorsed candidates winning primaries as evidence of the group’s rising influence.
He characterizes the DSA as hostile to free speech, anti-Semitic, and linked to violent tactics, referencing a February protest in San Francisco that targeted Mayor Daniel Lurie. The resolution also backs the SAVE Act, which would mandate U.S. citizenship proof for federal voter registration, while criticizing DSA’s platform that advocates voting rights for permanent residents, prisoners, and those with criminal convictions, as well as calls to abolish the Senate and reshape the Supreme Court. The proposal will be examined by the House Rules Committee on Monday, with a full vote anticipated in the following week.
