Colts special teams coach Brian Mason injured on sideline during preseason finale
Special teams coordinator Brian Mason was taken off the field after a low-body hit on the final play of the Colts’ preseason tie with New England.
During the last play of the Indianapolis Colts’ preseason game against the New England Patriots, special teams coordinator Brian Mason suffered a low-impact collision that forced him off the sideline. He was seen on the ground in obvious discomfort, prompting head coach Shane Steichen to note that Mason was undergoing a knee evaluation. The game, which ended in a 13-13 tie at Gillette Stadium, saw Mason attempting to evade the oncoming rush of Patriots and Colts players.
This marks Mason’s fourth season overseeing special teams for the Colts, following coaching roles at Cincinnati and a year at Notre Dame. Last season his unit helped the Colts rank second in kickoff return average and achieve the league’s second-best field-goal percentage. The team hopes he can return to duties soon.
Why it matters
