Comedy Central renames South Park to "South America" in Trump-themed stunt

Comedy Central disclosed that the long-running cartoon South Park will be officially called South America starting with its Season 29 premiere on Sept. 16. In a press release, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone said the rename is inspired by the “bravery and patriotism” of Apple and Google and expressed gratitude to Paramount, describing it as a “Skydance Capitulation.” The timing aligns with Donald Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, which the show has lampooned in its recent season.

The announcement also highlights the series’ fifth Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Series, which the creators used to mock Trump with a graphic of the president in underwear holding the award. The move continues the show’s tradition of satirizing the president and his administration.
