Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil to place founding leaders' speech anthology on cabinet desks and fund more copies
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil will bring a book of Malaysia's founding leaders' speeches to the next cabinet meeting and seek funding to print an additional 2,000 copies.
During a ceremony at Wisma Radio in Angkasapuri, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he will ensure a copy of the anthology of founding leaders' speeches sits on the table of each cabinet minister at the next meeting. He plans to secure funds for a further 2,000 copies of the limited-edition volume, originally compiled by the late J. Victor Morais in 1967 and featuring 100 addresses by early Malaysian statesmen including Tunku Abdul Rahman, Lee Kuan Yew, Fuad Stephens and Stephen Kalong Ningkan.
Fadzil linked the project to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's emphasis on historic awareness for one outlet generation. He also mentioned possible parliamentary programmes with Speaker Johari Abdul and a National Month initiative in collaboration with National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang. Translating the work for younger readers and locating lost speeches were highlighted as longer-term goals.
Why it matters
The move aims to promote historical literacy among Malaysia's leaders and the public by making foundational speeches widely accessible.
