Concarneau mayor placed in police custody amid sexual assault investigation

Quentin Le Gaillard, the right-leaning mayor of Concarneau in Finistère, was placed in police custody on Thursday morning while investigators pursue a rape case. The Quimper prosecutor’s office, represented by Cécile Flamet, confirmed the detention and indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, declining to release additional information at this stage. Le Gaillard had earlier described the allegations as implausible and defamatory, stating his intention to sue for false accusation.

He also claimed that his interaction with the complainant was limited to a single meeting and a brief kiss. The municipal council meeting slated for Thursday evening was abruptly delayed, according to one outlet's reports.
