Confederation leader Bosak slams government’s energy aid plan as costly and ineffective

Krzysztof Bosak warned that the government’s new energy-subsidy law raises taxes while offering limited help to industry.

Krzysztof Bosak, deputy marshal of the Sejm, reminded followers that Confederation has long warned about the competitive damage from EU climate policy. He argued that the government’s recent law, which implements an EU mechanism to aid high-energy-cost plants, is flawed and raises corporate taxes, particularly for major fuel and energy firms. Bosak said the support fund is insufficient and its distribution will be handled by a commission appointed by the minister, limiting transparency.

He noted that the law simultaneously increases taxes, which will ultimately be passed to consumers, while allocating a modest amount to industry relief. Bosak urged the Senate to consider opposition-proposed amendments that could improve the bill, and he suggested lowering the mandatory power fee would be a simpler way to help businesses.

Why it matters

The criticism highlights potential flaws in Poland's approach to supporting energy-intensive industries and its fiscal impact.
