Congress decides to oust Punjab chief Warring, Singla poised as successor

The Congress high command has moved to replace Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president, with Vijay Inder Singla emerging as the leading candidate.

The Congress high command has resolved to dismiss Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as head of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, just two months after confirming his tenure and with less than five months before the state assembly election. Potential replacements include Vijay Inder Singla, Pargat Singh, Rana KP Singh and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, with Singla currently favored. The decision stems from organisational feedback collected by Sachin Pilot, who took charge of Punjab affairs on September 5 and consulted senior state officials.

Pilot's findings were incorporated into a report that was reviewed by central leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, K C Venugopal and Pilot himself, leading to the endorsement of a leadership change. Party insiders say the move aims to install a figure capable of bridging internal factions, after recent disputes surfaced following Warring's July 1 retention. An official announcement naming Warring's successor is expected soon.
