Congress leader challenges ECI's unanimous affidavit over voter roll revisions
Congress spokesperson Imran Masood questioned the legality of the Election Commission of India's unanimous decisions on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, saying agreement does not prove compliance with rules.
In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of India asserted that its three members reached unanimous agreement on every decision related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, rejecting claims of unilateral action by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress leader Imran Masood responded by emphasizing that unanimity alone does not confirm adherence to legal requirements, focusing on the contested Form 6 and alleging arbitrary deletions of votes.
The commission further clarified that the extra declaration required during SIR is a distinct document prescribed by its orders, not a modification of Form 6. When asked if the filing represented a setback for the opposition, Masood reiterated concerns about vote theft rather than the commission itself. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi called for a "Save the Vote - Save the Country" march at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on November 1, urging citizens to protest alleged electoral malpractice.
