Congress leader Kharge rebuts BJP over Vande Mataram controversy in Goa

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge led a Vande Mataram chant in Panaji, countering BJP accusations of disrespect and questioning the party's patriotic credentials.

During a meeting of booth-level agents and workers in Panaji, Congress AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge oversaw a rendition of two stanzas of Vande Mataram, following BJP claims that Congress leaders disrespected the national song at a recent Independence Day event. Seva Dal volunteers led the chant, and participants stood at attention while repeatedly chanting the anthem. Kharge retorted to the BJP by asking which of its members fought for independence, labeling the party as anti-India and urging unity among Congress ranks.

He highlighted internal friction over the state party presidency, noting support for former state chief Amit Patkar. Kharge also criticized the state government for alleged drug issues and promised to protect Goa's forests, create employment, tackle inflation, and stop land sales if his party forms the next government.
