Congressional Aide Survives Lightning Strike Caught on Doorbell Camera

A doorbell camera captured the moment Thomas Fahmy, who works for Republican Representative Nicole Malliotakis, was struck by lightning as he walked toward his vehicle on Staten Island. While holding an umbrella, the bolt hit his foot, causing him to fall; he recovered, walked to a nearby neighbor’s residence for shelter, and awaited an ambulance. Fahmy spent a night in the hospital, describing sensations of tingling, numbness, burning and intense pain in both feet, but suffered no burns.
Following his release, he purchased a Mega Millions lottery ticket. Malliotakis issued a statement expressing gratitude that Fahmy survived the strike.
