Democratic congressional candidate Evan Hunt used his campaign X account to criticize Rep. Keith Self’s opposition to a mosque relocation and the related recall effort in McKinney, Texas.
Evan Hunt, the Democratic candidate for Texas’ 3rd Congressional District, posted a video on his campaign’s X account denouncing Rep. Keith Self’s comments on a mosque relocation proposal in McKinney. Hunt accused Self of attempting to pressure council members into rejecting the plan, which envisions a 5-acre site with a 37,000-square-foot mosque complex serving 3,000 worshippers. Self replied that all citizens have the right to participate in local government without fear of intimidation and said the Department of Justice had been notified of alleged intimidation tactics.
The city council had approved the relocation on Aug. 4, prompting a recall petition against Mayor Bill Cox and councilors Justin Beller, Geré Feltus, and Ernest Lynch. Hunt also targeted Eddie Isa, a self-described Sharia survivor, calling his remarks hateful and accusing him of seeking fame.
