Conservation summit urged to press Russia for release of detained Ukrainian scientist
A conservation meeting has been asked to call on Russia to free Ukrainian researcher Leonid Pshenichnov, who has been held for over a year.
Leonid Pshenichnov, a Ukrainian scientist, was detained by Russian forces shortly before last year’s CCAMLR gathering. Ukraine has voiced serious worries about his health. The Ukrainian government is now urging the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources to demand his immediate, unconditional release. The appeal comes as the conference prepares its upcoming session.
