Conservative group spends millions backing GOP Senate hopefuls to champion pro-AI agenda

The conservative policy organization Alliance for a Better Future is spending a seven-figure sum on advertising that promotes three Republican Senate contenders—Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas, and Rep. Ashley Hinson of Iowa—as champions of a balanced yet aggressive American AI strategy. The ads, scheduled to run throughout September, praise the candidates’ support for federal AI investment, workforce protections and safeguards against deceptive AI content, while depicting Democrats such as Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib as "socialists" who would jeopardize U.S. competitiveness with China.

The initiative follows a previously undisclosed $1 million contribution to MAGA Inc. and aligns with recent warnings from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and other tech CEOs urging a slower pace for AI development. President Donald Trump has dismissed calls for stricter regulations, insisting AI requires "strong and smart" leadership. Each of the three GOP office-holders has publicly backed measures consistent with the group’s agenda, though their campaigns did not respond to requests for comment.
