Conservative leader proposes eliminating diesel taxes through Canada Day

Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre outlined a policy to make diesel cheaper by eliminating all federal taxes on the fuel until at least Canada Day. He noted that domestic diesel production meets national demand, but inadequate transportation infrastructure pushes some areas to depend on imports from the United States. The proposal calls for extending the existing fuel excise tax cut through July 1 of the following year and removing the GST on diesel purchases.

Additionally, Poilievre seeks to permanently abolish the federal industrial carbon tax and the Clean Fuel Standard, which he claims add to production costs and discourage new refinery projects. He argues the measures would expand refining capacity, enable more Canadian crude processing, and support the development of needed transport and storage infrastructure across the country.
