Conservatives launch 'Conservatives for Canada' drive to keep Alberta in the federation

Ahead of the Oct. 19 Alberta referendum on whether to remain a province or trigger a binding secession process, the federal Conservative Party has launched a "Conservatives for Canada" campaign. The effort includes a dedicated website offering voting guidance and a donation platform, and is headed by MP Dane Lloyd, who says the goal is to engage the 1.4 million Conservative voters in the province. Party leader Pierre Poilievre has framed the issue as a dispute over Ottawa’s policies rather than a desire for a separate nation, citing recent Liberal moves like ending the consumer carbon price and reaching a resource development memorandum with Premier Danielle Smith.
The federal government also named senior adviser Morgan Breitkreutz to steer its overall strategy. Polling suggests a strong majority of Albertans prefer to stay in Canada, while some right-leaning factions continue to advocate for a separation vote. Elections Alberta expects a high turnout, with over 290,000 mail-in ballot requests filed.
