Construction contractor arrested after girls reveal rape during safety lesson in Surat

An awareness program on personal safety held at an ashram school in Nandurbar prompted an 11-year-old to approach a police officer and allege that she had been raped by Piriya Valvi, a 56-year-old construction labour contractor. She further reported that her 14-year-old sister had been assaulted in a separate incident. The sisters had traveled to Surat to stay with their mother, who was employed by Valvi at a construction site, when the alleged attacks took place in May.

Following the disclosure, school officials informed the mother, who then learned of both assaults. Nandurbar police recorded a zero FIR and handed the matter to Udhna police, leading to Valvi’s arrest on violations of the BNS and Pocso legislation. Authorities have arranged medical examinations for the two minors and await the results. Valvi, married with two sons, resides in Udhna and had previously hired the girls’ mother as a labourer.
