Construction costs for new residential buildings rise sharply in August 2026

Germany's statistical office reports that prices for building new conventional residential structures increased noticeably in August 2026 compared with the previous year.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, the price level for new conventional residential construction climbed in August 2026 compared with August 2025. This upward movement was larger than the increase observed in May 2026. Builders faced higher charges for core construction tasks, such as roof covering, timber framing, earth moving, and concrete and masonry work.

Installation sectors, including heating systems, central water heating, electrical, security and IT equipment, as well as insulation panels, also saw cost growth. Maintenance work on existing residential properties, excluding decorative repairs, became more expensive. The price pressure extended to the construction of office and commercial buildings, and even to road works, which experienced higher rates as well.
