Construction firm linked to Szíjj László finances Megafon with sizable corporate contributions
Investigations reveal that Vakond Via Kft., owned by Szíjj László, provided substantial financial support to the pro-Fidesz outlet Megafon.
Documents from corporate reports indicate that Vakond Via Kft., a construction company owned by Szíjj László and belonging to the Duna Group, contributed significant sums to the Fidesz-aligned media outlet Megafon during a two-year period. Additional filings show that other enterprises linked to Szíjj and his long-time business partner Mészáros Lőrinc have also provided financial backing to Megafon through multiple subsidiaries.
The Duna Group has secured numerous major state contracts, such as the Mohács River Bridge and sections of the M6 motorway, underscoring its close ties to government procurement. Transparency International Hungary’s director highlighted a cyclical pattern where public contracts fund private firms that, in turn, support partisan propaganda. Prime Minister Magyar Péter has criticized the State Audit Office for not probing possible illegal party financing, while the office announced a new audit of the 2026 election campaign that will assess media financing. Neither Szíjj László nor Megafon responded to requests for comment.
