Construction start for Brno's new main station postponed pending redesign of rail hub

The anticipated 2028 launch for building Brno's new central railway station has been withdrawn, according to Dušan Kábel of Správa železnic. He explained that the project's timeline now hinges on the phased reconstruction of the whole Brno rail node, which will move the main station to a southern site by the Svratka River. This junction ranks as the second most important rail hub in the Czech Republic after Prague, serving large volumes of both passenger and cargo trains.

Current capacity constraints force some services to bypass the main station, requiring passengers to use the lower station instead. The overhaul is considered a key national infrastructure undertaking, essential for accommodating growing long-distance and commuter traffic.
