Construction worker killed as two-story home collapses in Texas storm

During a severe wind event on Thursday, gusts reported between 50 and 70 mph brought down a two-story residence under construction in Travis County, Texas. Four laborers were on the site; two managed to get clear as the building collapsed, while the remaining two were caught inside. One worker remained conscious but trapped beneath framing, and the other sustained injuries that proved fatal.

Emergency responders from Travis County Emergency Services District 5, together with the Austin Fire Department Special Operations team, stabilized the structure and raised it to extract the trapped individuals. A nearby resident described the winds as intense, noting trees bending sideways before hearing the house collapse. The incident underscores the hazards construction crews face during extreme weather.
