Construction worker killed when temporary scaffolding platform collapses in Bukit Mertajam

At roughly 6.15 pm on September 8, a construction worker in Bukit Mertajam was killed after the temporary catch platform that supported scaffolding collapsed while he was dismantling the structure on the eighth floor. The fall resulted in serious head trauma, and he was declared dead on site. The Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) was notified of the accident and promptly ordered a stop to all related work and prohibited any interference with the site to maintain evidence.

The investigation will proceed under Sections 17, 18A and 18B of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, which outline safety duties for employers and principals. DOSH emphasized the seriousness of incidents involving work at height and urged employers to conduct thorough risk assessments, provide safe access, and install proper fall-protection systems.
