Consumer Commission orders Park Club to refund Rs 95,000 over substandard holiday membership

The Chandigarh district consumer commission directed Park Club International to return Rs 95,000 to a member who paid Rs 1.10 lakh for a five-year holiday plan but was given lower-category hotels and extra charges, also granting Rs 15,000 in compensation.

The Chandigarh district consumer commission ruled on September 1, 2026 that Park Club International Pvt Ltd must refund Rs 95,000 to Mandeep Kumar Garg, who had paid Rs 1.10 lakh for a five-year holiday membership promising 36 nights in 4-5 star hotels with meals. Garg reported that after the company changed its name, it refused a five-star booking in Manali, offering a three-star hotel instead, and later provided only one- or two-star accommodations in Kasauli while demanding extra charges for meals and utilities.

The commission noted that the company failed to appear despite service of notice, leading to an ex-parte decision. It found the evidence—including membership documents, payment proof, and expense bills—unrebutted, and therefore ordered the refund with 9% annual interest from the filing date, Rs 15,000 for mental agony and litigation costs, and a deduction for services already used. The order must be complied with within 45 days, with higher interest accruing if not fulfilled.

Why it matters

It highlights consumer rights enforcement when holiday membership promises are not fulfilled.
