Consumer helpline reports top e-commerce platforms facing most complaints and large refunds

The National Consumer Helpline said Flipkart, Amazon and Meesho received the highest number of grievances in 2025, and more than Rs 91 crore was refunded to shoppers through pre-litigation settlements.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs BL Verma disclosed that the National Consumer Helpline recorded the largest complaint volumes for Flipkart, Amazon and Meesho in 2025, with 1.33 lakh, 91,248 and 29,284 grievances respectively. The helpline, run by the Department of Consumer Affairs, supports submissions in 17 Indian languages via a toll-free number and digital channels. Between April 25 2025 and June 30 2026, it facilitated refunds exceeding Rs 91 crore, of which over Rs 63 crore related to e-commerce disputes, after settling more than 1.47 lakh refund claims before litigation.

Quick-commerce complaints, totalling 5.11 lakh in 2025, were all cleared, while non-delivery of products remained the top issue with 79,818 reports. Other frequent complaints involved wrong items, denied replacements, defective goods and unauthorized debits. The Central Consumer Protection Authority imposed collective fines of roughly Rs 1.12 crore on 47 platforms for breaching the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020.
