Convicted murderer Muskan Rastogi pleads to see seven-year-old daughter before sentencing

Muskan Rastogi, convicted in the blue-drum murder case, has asked jail officials to allow her seven-year-old daughter to visit her ahead of her upcoming sentence.

In Meerut, Muskan Rastogi and her accomplice Sahil Shukla appeared via video link before the district judge as the court prepares to announce their sentences for the murder of Saurabh Rajput, whose body was concealed in an industrial drum filled with concrete and sand. The judge probed the defendants on the forensic findings and other aspects of the case, though specific questions were not disclosed. Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma reported that both convicts are anxious, have been eating minimally and are unable to sleep properly.

Rastogi has spent the past three to four days repeatedly asking to see her seven-year-old daughter, but the child has not been brought to the jail. Authorities said they are ready to present the prisoners to the court whenever required. The conviction followed 126 hearings and testimonies from 22 witnesses.

Why it matters

The case highlights the human side of a high-profile murder conviction and raises questions about inmate visitation rights.
