Copenhagen approves limited zero-emission zone in Vesterbro district
The Climate, Environment and Technology Committee of Copenhagen Municipality voted to establish a zero-emission zone covering part of Vesterbro, with some streets excluded after public feedback.
On Monday, the Climate, Environment and Technology Committee of Copenhagen Municipality adopted a revised zero-emission zone for a portion of the Vesterbro neighbourhood. The original draft covered a larger area, but after receiving extensive public input the committee removed Vesterbrogade from the restricted zone. Kristine Ammitzbøll-Bille of the Radikale party welcomed the decision, noting its benefits for climate and one outlet air quality.
The proposal must still be cleared by the Environmental Agency before the Copenhagen City Council can give final approval. If enacted, the zone will prohibit gasoline and diesel vehicles within its boundaries, aiming to reduce traffic emissions in the area.
Why it matters
The measure could significantly cut one outlet air pollution and set a precedent for other Danish cities.
