Copper spheres unearthed during house foundation work in Amethi spark archaeological probe

During a house foundation dig in Bhanauli village, Amethi, workers uncovered 29 large copper spheres that police seized and handed to archaeologists.

While digging foundations for a residence in Bhanauli village of Musafirkhana, Amethi district, workers discovered 29 sizable metal spheres that caused alarm among locals. The objects, each about 60 centimetres in diameter, 20 centimetres high and weighing close to 9-10 kilograms, were promptly secured by police. Authorities notified the Uttar Pradesh Archaeology Department, which sent Assistant Archaeological Officer Manoj Kumar Yadav to examine the find.

Yadav reported that the balls are made of copper, feature fuse holes and appear to have served as ammunition. The discovery has prompted a formal archaeological investigation to determine the artifacts' age and origin.

The find could reveal historical military activity in the region and requires expert analysis.
