Corinthians seal Memphis Depay extension with reduced salary and trimmed perks

Corinthians have finalized a new contract with Dutch forward Memphis Depay that runs to July 31, 2028, after the player accepted lower wages and gave up several benefits.

Corinthians announced the extension of Dutch striker Memphis Depay’s contract through July 31, 2028, after intense negotiations that once seemed deadlocked. Under the new terms, Depay will receive around R$ 103.7 million in net fixed compensation, while the club’s overall expense totals approximately R$ 135 million, plus a R$ 7.7 million allocation for marketing. The deal includes a reduced salary of R$ 54 million net over two years, with labor charges bringing that portion to R$ 79 million.

A debt from his original September 2024 contract was cut from R$ 77 million to R$ 42 million, to be paid in four semi-annual installments starting January 2027, adding a further R$ 56 million due to exchange-rate costs. Perks such as a R$ 250,000 monthly housing allowance and individual performance bonuses were removed, saving the club about R$ 6 million and aligning his bonus structure with the rest of the squad. The marketing budget was also halved, with the club looking for commercial partners to shoulder the expense.

Why it matters

The deal reshapes Corinthians' finances and shows how clubs adjust star contracts to stay within budget.
