Coroner rules sisters' Brighton Beach deaths were intentional suicides
A coroner has concluded that three sisters who drowned off Brighton Beach intentionally took their own lives.
The bodies of Jane Adetoro, 36, and her sisters Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were recovered from the waters off Brighton Beach after being reported on May 13. A coroner's inquest, led by Penelope Schofield, ruled the cause of death as drowning and concluded the sisters had intentionally entered the sea to end their lives, noting they could not swim. Their father, Joseph Jacobsen, described the loss as unimaginable and found some solace in his faith.
Police investigations, including extensive CCTV review, showed the sisters traveled from London to Brighton by pre-booked taxi and were last seen near the pier, one using a mobile torch. Family members watched the proceedings remotely via a television link, and the Samaritans were cited as a resource for those affected.
