Corruption probe into BGN electric motorcycle procurement leads to arrests
Indonesia's Attorney General's Office has charged five individuals over alleged corruption in the BGN electric motorcycle procurement, citing substantial state losses.
An audit by the Attorney General's Office revealed major financial losses linked to the procurement of electric motorcycles for the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Five people—among them a former BGN deputy secretary and executives from PT ASE, PT YAT, and PT AKI—are alleged to have conspired to ensure PT YAT won the contract by tampering with the bidding process, technical criteria, and the Harga Perkiraan Sendiri. They face primary and subsidiary charges under Indonesia's anti-corruption statutes.
All five have been held in custody for 20 days while prosecutors prepare indictments. The case has been transferred to the Central Jakarta District Prosecutor's Office, which will forward it to the Corruption Court for trial.
Why it matters
The case highlights systemic procurement fraud that drains public funds and undermines trust in government contracts.
