Corvera Airport hits six-million passengers, adds Liverpool and Amsterdam routes

Region de Murcia International Airport celebrated passing six million passengers and announced new flights to Liverpool and Amsterdam.

Region de Murcia International Airport (RMU) reached the six-million passenger mark since opening in January 2019, a milestone highlighted by tourism chief Juan Francisco Martinez and airport director Carlos Sanmartin during a Ryanair arrival from Dublin. The airport will expand its network with Easyjet introducing twice-weekly flights to Liverpool and Transavia adding three-weekly flights to Amsterdam Schiphol. In the first eight months of the year, the region attracted 298,642 British tourists, whose spending totaled €374.3 million, and 69,254 Dutch visitors, who spent €118.7 million.

Aena’s data show RMU handled 709,319 passengers between January and August, more than double the 4.1 % growth seen across Spain’s airport network, with international flights representing almost 90 % of traffic. The growth underscores Murcia’s record-breaking foreign tourism season, which saw 949,861 international visitors spending €1.25 billion.
